Appointments

All consultations are by appointment. Our advanced access appointment system will enable you to obtain an appointment within 24 hours of your request, whether your problem is urgent or routine. The GPs are anxious to keep as close to appointment times as possible. Please be mindful when booking your appointment that the allocated time for each appointment is 10 minutes.  If you do have multiple problems that you need to discuss it may be necessary for the GP to ask you to arrange for a further appointment to be made.

You may request to see the Doctor of your choice but be aware that this may not always be possible. Our receptionists will advise you of Doctor availability.

To make an appointment, please either telephone 01905 723441 or call into reception on the day you wish to be seen. The appointments line is open from 8am to 5pm (using option 1).

Last week we lost 78 appointments which amounted to 11 hours 0 minutes of wasted surgery time.

We advise you to avoid Mondays for routine or follow up consultations. We have planned our appointment system to provide sufficient appointments for routine and follow-ups with the Doctor of your choice throughout the week.

Pre Bookable Appointments

Please note that we have a limited number of pre-bookable appointments for people who find it difficult to book on the day – please ask the receptionist if there are any available when you call. In addition to this, we are always happy to pre-book appointments for carers or patients who need to arrange transport in advance e.g. Worcester Wheels. When requesting this, please tell the Receptionist so that she will be able to offer an appointment to fit in with your circumstances.

Appointments Online

Welcome to your appointments online gateway. This system is designed to give you increased access when booking appointments. In addition to booking and cancelling appointments in the surgery or over the phone you will now be able to do this online.

Some appointments will be available to be booked up to 2 weeks in advance. However, in keeping with the practice policy, the majority of appointments will only be available on the day. You may wish to use this service if you are unable to get through in the morning, when the phone lines can be very busy. In order to sign up for this service you will need to come into the surgery and fill in a short form, these will be available at reception. If they are not clearly visible ask a receptionist for assistance. You will then be issued with a unique log-in number and password. This will enable you to register with the system and start booking and cancelling appointments online.

Nurse Practitioner service at Elbury Moor medical centre

A new service to make it easier for you (patients) to access advice and treatment as quickly as possible for minor and acute problems

WHAT IS A NURSE PRACTITIONER?

Nurse Practitioners (NP) are experienced nurses who, through further education and specialist training, have developed their skills and knowledge in order to offer extended services to patients. While not being a replacement for Doctors, they can provide nursing services that incorporate some aspects of care previously provided by Doctors.

WHAT CAN A NURSE PRACTITIONER DO?

Take a history of your health problem and perform a physical examination. Diagnose and treat minor illnesses and common health problems. Prescribe a wide range of medications.  Manage long term illnesses such as asthma and coronary heart disease, offering support and education about the condition.  Offer telephone advice about minor illnesses, health problems and medication.  Treat minor injuries.

WHEN?

This service will be available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 08.45 – 13.00.

HOW?

Patients requesting same-day appointments will be offered an appointment with the N/P if the problem is one the N/P can deal with.

WHAT PROBLEMS CAN THE NURSE PRACTITIONERS DEAL WITH?

Minor illness-

• Ear infection
• Cough, cold
• Throat infection/ mouth infections
• Chest infection
• Eye infection
• Dysuria (female) Cystitis/urinary problems
• Wound infection, cellulites
• Viral infections.
• Sinusitis
• Dizziness
• Abdominal pain ( New episode - not already undergoing treatment)

Minor aliment

• Hay fever
• Insect bites, stings – local reaction or infected
• Rashes, including impetigo and scabies.
• Allergies
• Fungal skin infections, oral and vaginal candida (thrush) -fungal infections
• Emergency contraception (morning after pill)
• Red eye / eye infection.
• Threadworms
• Head lice
• Eczema, dermatitis
• Impetigo
• In-growing toenails
• Paronychia (finger nail infections)
• Diarrhoea and vomiting     

Minor injury

• Acute back pain (muscular)
• Any minor injuries – over 1 week old (under 1 week should go to A/E)
• Torticollis (wry neck)
• Animal bites
• Wounds / wound infections

Telephone Advice

There are many instances when your problem can be sorted out by speaking to your Doctor or Nurse on the telephone.

If you wish to do this, please telephone the surgery before 11.30 am and the Receptionist will be able to pass your details on to the GP. Please do not ask to speak to the Doctor personally if you require a repeat prescription or home visit.            

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU GIVE A CURRENT CONTACT TELEPHONE NUMBER AND IF IT IS A MOBILE NUMBER PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE MOBILE IS SWITCHED ON.

Home Visits

Requests for home visits should ideally be made before 10.30am each day.

Please telephone 01905 723441 (using option 2) with your request. Home visits are made at the discretion of the doctor. The criteria for home visits include terminally ill and elderly housebound patients.
